Rural development involves both economic development as well as social transformation. The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing several programs through the State Governments to promote better prospects for economic development, aimed at poverty reduction, rural infrastructure habitant development, provision of basic minimum services and providing employment to marginal farmers/labourers to discourage seasonal and permanent migration to urban areas. This section has information on the major missions and initiatives, such as Rurban (Mission launched to transform rural areas and develop them to reduce the gap between rural & urban), Gramoday (focusing on the development work done in villages), the Ujjawala Yojana (for providing LPG cylinders in every household) and projects undertaken for providing clean drinking water.
