The scheme was launched to promote enrollment of girl child in the age group of 14-18 years to encourage secondary education among girls.

Individuals willing to avail the scholarship needs to fulfill the conditions listed below :
-All SC/ST girls who pass class VIII and
-Girls, who pass class VIII examination from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (irrespective of whether they belong to Scheduled Castes or Tribes) and enroll for class IX in State/UT Government, Government-aided or local body schools.
-Girls should be below 16 years of age (as on 31st March) on joining class IX
-Married girls, girls studying in private unaided schools and enrolled in schools run by Central Government like KVS, NVS and CBS affiliated Schools are excluded.
The benefit under the scheme can be availed with any one other scholarship scheme. On maturity, the incentive amount along with interest is transferred directly into bank accounts of students following DBT mode by implementing banks through Public Financial Management System platform.

A sum of Rs. 3,000/- is deposited in the name of eligible girls as fixed deposit in a public sector bank or post office. The girls are entitled to withdraw the sum along with interest upon reaching 18 years of age and on passing 10th class examination. The term period of the deposit will be counted from the date of deposit to the date on which the girl attains the age of 18 years. No premature withdrawal will be allowed.
